So I'm contemplating returning to SWTOR. I read the release notes for the next expansion and I'm not entirely sure what to think.

PROS:
DvL actually having an effect on the galaxy (i.e. similar to Conquest)

CONS:
Removing the differential between PVE and PVP
RNG for end game gearing
Removal of a "merit" system (i.e. Downing HM/NiM rewards you with top tier gear; now it's time/grind based)

ON THE FENCE:
The potential for new Ops in 2017

Thoughts?

I don't want to dissuade you from coming back, but I'm not hopeful. I still do play frequently.

My concerns are getting trounced in combat because some player managed to get better gear while the ramp up for someone without as much time is too steep. Would someone who does operations each night jump into a warzone and dominate? At least now without gear with expertise, you may be hurting for a couple of matches, but you could buy the gear pretty quickly.

Who wants to do operations? Before you had a new operation and it had the best gear. Last year they dangled out the best gear dropping from a highlighted operation. Going through the grind again just to get back what I had doesn't sit well with me.

They've been saying on the forums, click on a person's referral link. That will get you seven days of free play. If you like it you can subscribe.

I will give you the warning that the population on our server has dipped severely. I hope the expansion will give us an uptick.
Move, ball!

Edit:

PROS:
The variable difficulty levels in for Story content; this will add replay value.
